Sarah Penelope will be showcasing a range of hand-tailored chairs at The Old Fire Station. All are meticulously upholstered using traditional techniques involving tied springs, layers of hessian and animal hair, and hand-stitched seams.
Period furniture or made-to-order chairs are upholstered in either contemporary or vintage and recycled fabrics, including men’s suits and antique French hemp.
Frames for made-to-order chairs are handcrafted by a Sussex head joiner who has many years experience working for prestigious London designers. Timbers are fully traceable and ethically sourced.
On show will be also be collaboration with shoe designer Hetty Rose who specialises in unique handmade footwear using exquisite vintage Japanese kimono silks. |

Spring Fever specialises in traditional upholstery using carefully and imaginatively selected textiles ranging from the classic to the contemporary to the extraordinary.
With a background in printed textiles and fashion, my work on show will combine a collection of chairs upholstered using hand painted/printed textiles and old linen smocks that bring the chairs to life and capture an essence of history.
My passion for textiles and colour allows me to push the boundaries of upholstery and create unusual and visually exciting looking chairs whilst maintaining their original purpose. |
